In a very humble way, 50 years ago on 19th February 1971 UCDC began its mission to the periphery in a formal way. Now it is right time and occasion to initiate its second leg of the journey with the redevelopment project. After many years of planning and preparation, and having successfully dealt with all the challenges associated with the project, the ‘Ground Breaking & Blessing’ ceremony for UCDC Redevelopment Project was held on 19th February 2021 at 10.30 am.  The ceremony began with UCDC anthem. Fr. Provincial, Fr. Richard Mathias led the ceremony prayerfully invoking God’s blessings on the construction project and initiated the work by digging the ground while the choir led by Fr. Nicky sang melodious hymns. Following the Covid-19 protocols only the local SVD community members, some of the Governing Body members, UCDC staff, a few associates, Contractor, Architect and Site Supervisor were present for the ceremony. Fr. Jerome concluded the ceremony by thanking God and all the respective people gathered. The program ended with snacks prepared by UCDC staff. UCDC has been catering to the periphery ever since its inception and God has blessed all of its works, plans and projects so far. The ground breaking ceremony will open many new avenues to reach out and serve the poor and the marginalized.
