St. John’s Mission Seminary, Changanacherry
St. John’s Mission Seminary Changanacherry, Kerala, was started in 1962 for higher Secondary school students. Fr. Zimmerman who pioneered vocation promotion in South India was the one who was entrusted with the task of establishing the house. He, with the help of Fr. Joseph Puthumana, Fr. Sebastian Pottanani and Fr. Augustine Chellenthara were the initial men who laid the foundation of the seminary. In 1966, Fr. Raphael Cheenath was appointed Rector followed by Fr. Joseph Madathany, Fr. George Muthanattu, Fr. Anand Anithothottathil, Fr. Chacko Parekattu, Fr. Jacob Nalloor, Fr. Mathew Kanjirithunkal, Fr. Jose P.A, Fr. Mathew Kavukattu, Fr. Antony Puthumana, Fr. Mathew Chennakudy, Fr. Michael Vettumanikkal, Fr. Jose Kollemkunnel and Fr. Jose P.A etc.
Up to June, 2019, a total of 1266 students have been admitted to this house over the last 58 years. There are over 200 are ordained priests and of these around 100 are working in different mission countries around the globe. Another hundred are in various stages of formation in India and abroad. The seminary has contributed much in forming zealous, committed and active SVD missionaries to work all over the world. At present there are 30 students in this seminary.
