CHOTANAGPUR FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT ORGANIZED BY ST. ARNOLD SPORT’S CLUB

The Archdiocese of Bombay celebrated the 109th World Day of Migrants and Refugees on the 24th of September, 2023.  In honor of World Migrants Day St. Arnold Sport’s Club under the banner of UCDC, organized an anticipated one-day football match on 10th September, 2023. The main objective of organizing the event was to bring unity among male youth.  It was an effort to get in touch with the youth in and around Mumbai.  There were 18 teams from Khopoli, Vashi, Chembur, Borovali, Andheri, and Bandra of which two teams were girls’ teams from St. Theresa. Fr. Cosmos welcomed all and explained to them the objectives of having a football match. Fr. Nicolau D’Costa, SVD the principal of St. Theresa High School began the tournament with a small prayer and wished the team members all the very best.  Fr. Lawrence Correa the Director of the Urban Community Development Centre (UCDC) personally appreciated and encouraged the teams with his presence.

The committees from the St. Arnold Sports Club played a great role in planning and executing the entire event. It began at 08:00 am and lasted till 07:00 pm.  The winning Team was the Toppo Brothers from Mount Mary and the runner-up was the St. Theresa ‘B’ Team. The prize distribution to the respective teams was given away by Mr. Ronnie Mendonca, the chairman of UCDC, and Fr. Nicolau D’Costa. Fr. Cosmos appreciated the efforts taken by committee members of St. Arnold Sports Club and thanked all the teams for their active participation.  St. Arnold Sports club is very grateful to the school management team for providing the school ground and premises.
