First Missionary to Andhra Pradesh: 18 July 1972 will be remembered as the Red letter day in the history of the SVD’s in India as Fr. George Muthanatt and Fr. Bernard Mundapallam stepped in to Andhra Pradesh as First missionaries. Later on this became a Mission territory of INS Province. He was installed as Parish Priest of St. Paul’s Church, Alirajpet on 22 July 1972. With the promotion of Fr. Raphael Cheenath to Rome, Fr. George Muthanatt, who had recently arrived in the new SVD mission in Medak district had to leave for Poona in February 1973 to occupy the vacant seat of the Regional. After completing his term as a Regional in 1975 he worked in various capacities. He was the Rector of Apostolic School, Kaduthuruthy; Rector of St. John’s, Changanacherry and Rector of Vidya Niketan, Mysore for 3 years. And in Andhra Mission he has relentlessly served as Rector of Jyothi Niketan, Narsaropet; as Parish Priest of St. John’s, Ramachandrapuram; and Our Lady of Mercy Church, Sangareddy. He took retirement in 2002 from active ministry and spent a decade in Shencotah, INH. At his request on 19 April 2013 Fr. Superior General transferred him to INM and spent his good old days at Changanacherry with the young new-comers to the SVD Society. Considering the growing age and related illness he willingly accepted to be part of the Soverdia Community from August 2017.
